As you can see, standards like those above address many factors to be considered in the development of quality conveyor systems.

No matter what your business, there are essential standards for you to consider in the development of your product.  Let Document Center help you define the standards you need, and keep you up-to-date with the standards you rely on.

Standards involving electricity resist harmonization.  You'll often find IEC standards adopted, but with national variances.  This has to do with the piecemeal development of electrical standards around the world.  That's why you'll find so many unusual outlet plugs when you go traveling!  However, when you do see another standard with the same numeric identifier, like UL 60950-1, you can be assured that it is a national adoption of an IEC standard.

Should you want to see what IEC standards have been adopted in a particular jurisdiction, please see the IEC affiliate country page.  You can click on the adoptions count and see the actual adopted standards for that country.

Do you need help understanding the standards you're being asked to use?  Contact us at Document Center and get the answers you need.  We're Your Standards Experts.

There is an interesting relationship between government laws, regulations and standards.  First, laws are issued by a governing body to achieve a desired result.   Then regulation directs industry and individuals within that specific jurisdiction to meet specific targets in response to those mandates.  Standards are developed to meet those targets in concrete ways and to measure results to prove compliance.

In the field of pollution control, you can see the above standards support regulatory targets (for example those found in 2008/50/EC, the European Air Quality Standard).  Compliance with certain pollution standards in that jurisdiction may be mandatory.

We also need to mention that standards do support "best practices" and in the area of pollution control, no company should be ignoring the standards developments that impact their industry.  Public opinion negatively affects organizations that are not doing their utmost to avoid harm to the environment.  And the legal hazards of ignorance should be clear as well.

There are many legal pitfalls in the development and distribution of products in today's global economy.  Document Center Inc. provides you not only with information on changes to the standards you currently use, but has current awareness products to support the identification of standards you can't afford to miss.

I have learned over the years that you can never predict what standards people need to use.  We've sold standards to folks from a wide spectrum of industry, including premium cosmetics companies.

One of the things that I find most interesting about these standards is that they are categorized under "Chemicals used in Products."  I like to think that the makeup I use is just natural enhancement of my inherited good looks.  With the long names of the ingredients above, I can see that it is indeed the "Science of Beauty!"

And who knew that air fresheners are really products that reduce the perception of indoor malodor?  (Although having seen those commercials with the blindfolded participants sniffing the air, I guess I should have known!)

No matter what industry you're in or what products you'd like to verify, Document Center has the tools and the expertise to help you out.  Please contact us at (650) 591-7600 or at info@document-center.com to learn how we can help you and your organization.

Of course, here in California the summer means that our roadways are going to be under construction while the weather is good.  This is true particularly in the Sierras, where the winter weather not only precludes road repair, but puts a heavy strain on our highway system as cars chain up during our many snowstorms.

Using materials that provide safe and strong road ways is essential considering the heavy traffic our highway system is subjected to.  We have heavy usage from both "civilian" traffic and commercial trucks and trailers.  Standards like those above provide the foundation of safe and long-lasting roadways.

Register on www.document-center.com and see your List of Standards!

Document Center customers are loving the new functionality we just added to our website.  Released over the holiday weekend, the new log in interface provides you with a look at the status of your standards collection whenever you want!

There's three benefits to the new feature:

1.  Your customer information automatically fills in the order form.  We don't use cookies on our site to track you.  So using the log in system allows the website to recognize you.

2.  You immediately see your List of Standards when you log in, with the most recent publications listed at the top.  Nice touch -- Any document that has been updated after you purchased it is highlighted!  Spot potential problems quickly and easily, then order just what you need to be in compliance.

3.  You can see your Standards in an Order History format.  This means you can take a quick look to see what standards you've purchased during the last month, last quarter or last year!  Are you unsure if you got that new copy yet?  Any purchases show up on your list the next business day after the Document Center invoice is processed.  You'll see your authorization number, too!  Another nice way to keep track of what you're buying.

What do you need to do?

Just go to Document Center's website, www.document-center.com, and register.  You'll get a confirmation email that will let you log in for the first time.

If the email address you use is the same one as we have on file for your customer account,  you'll get all the information on your documents right away.

Do let us know if the email address we have on file for you is not the one you use now.  We can update your customer account and you'll get the full display one business day later.

Would you like to use this interface to keep track of your standards, but you don't have a customer account with us?  Or do you like it so much, you'd like to add more standards to your service?

Ask our sales staff to get you signed up for the documents you need us to track for you.  It's easy and affordable.  Document Center has lots of ways for you to keep up-to-date with the documentation you requirement.  Make us your Standards Experts!

We extend our condolences to the families of those lost in Saturday's Asiana crash here in San Francisco.  And, of course, we are praying for the recovery of those who were hurt in the accident as well.

When the news of the "hard landing" was first reported by television crews here in the Bay Area, it looked like there might be many more fatalities than actually occurred.  In retrospect, we can thank the aerospace industry for considering and acting on the hazards in these types of unforeseen and rare events.

Here in the U.S., our primary standards developers for the aerospace industry are SAE International and AIA.  Both Standards Developers publish many new and updated standards throughout the year.

There's a couple of documents that come to mind as an indicator of the emphasis that's been placed on two areas of aircraft development -- improved seat design to withstand extreme impact and the use of fire-retardant materials in the passenger areas.

ARP 5765, "Analytical Methods for Aircraft Seat Design and Evaluation," for example, recommends a  methodology to evaluate the correlation between a seat model and a dynamic impact test.  A new revision for this publication is in the works right now.  The standard was developed in response to sections of 14 CFR (Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations) on the computer modeling of seat impact conditions.

14 CFR Part 25 covers the issue of self-extinguishing cabin interiors (materials that cease burning when the source of the flame is removed).  One method for protecting the passenger area is the use of insulating thermal blankets between the exterior of the fuselage and the cabin interior.  ASTM C800Standard Specification for Glass Fiber Blanket Insulation (Aircraft Type), is a good example of this.

Please let us know if you need standards for aerospace applications.  Document Center Inc. is proud to be of service to the industry -- We're Your Standards Experts.

For more information on similar standards, see Document Center's List of Standards on Thermoplastic Materials.  And more great resources are Document Center's two lists of ASTM Standards on Plastics - ASTM D256 through ASTM D3159 and ASTM D3222 through ASTM D5083.

When we think of plastics, in most applications we're thinking about Thermoplastic Material.  Some common examples are acrylic, nylon, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and teflon.  For good or for ill, these materials are used in a wide variety of applications here in the U.S.  The product that's under the most scrutiny?  The plastic bag.

Now in my part of the world, the use of both plastic and paper bags at our local grocery stores is being phased out.  The reason?  A new local ordinance that requires grocery stores to charge 10 cents each for the bags used at the checkout stand.  Time for me to learn to take my own bag with me when I go shopping!

If your product has plastic components or packaging, you'll want to keep up with these standards.  Count on Document Center to provide you with monitoring services and "current awareness" products so you can focus on your business.  We'll handle the standards management for you!  We're your Standards Experts.
